Planting Churches Where There Are None

We were never intended to live in poverty, divided against one another, with little hope for peace, yet that is what most marginalized communities around the world are facing.  

This is why our local indigenous partners spend their time and resources engaging with these communities in order for them to feel known and seen in a world that often dismisses them. We desire to provide opportunities for them to begin to see their God-given value and their true identities as image bearers.  

 I want to share a story with you about a local pastor in South Sudan who is familiar with both rejection as well as the redemptive work of the Holy Spirit. 

After traveling to a rural village in hopes of sharing the love of Christ, Aramadan was soon forced to leave by the leader of the community in his attempt to deny the gospel. Out of respect and honor for the community, he left. 

Some time after, he received word that the same leader was now asking for him by name. He was specifically requesting for Aramadan to pray over his daughter-in-law who had been overcome by an evil spirit. Trusting that the Lord was not done working in and through this community, he traveled back to the village and, through prayer and the power of Jesus Christ, the spirit left the woman. 

The leader was so moved by this encounter that he wanted to continue meeting with Aramadan. Now, 70 members of the village gather regularly in the leader’s home to worship God and proclaim his truth. 

 What Aramadan didn’t know when he was first asked to leave the village was that God had more to do. He was still moving and active as the Holy Spirit allowed the leader to recall his previous encounter with him and call on him during his great need. 

Because of the faithful obedience of this pastor and our missional partners, God is reaching unreached people groups through the power of the gospel.  

Through the local church, communities are being transformed from the inside out— starting with individuals and families, and continuing through future generations.

“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it” (Isaiah 55:9-11).
