Sharing the Gospel through a Chicken Project

The Kiryandongo Refugee Camp in Uganda currently hosts over 60,000 refugees who have fled the effects of war in their home countries. Like our local partner, most of those living in this camp are from South Sudan and have tried to escape the civil war there.

Though entering into a more stable country can bring a sense of relief to refugees, living in a camp like this also comes with its own set of challenges.

Lack of Resources Kept Them in Survival Mode

With so many refugees in such great need, there is a severe lack of food and limited access to resources and job opportunities. This leaves those who have already lost everything they owned without the ability to find stability, nourishment, and rest.

They are stuck in survival mode as they seek to provide for themselves and their families.

Sharing the Hope of Christ

With a desire to share the hope of God with those who are suffering, our local partner, Pastor Thomas, began building trusted relationships within the camp and mentoring the youth in the community.

He spends his time praying with others and also oversees three church plants he started there. He is not only discipling those in his community, but he is also equipping others to do the same.

Pastor Thomas is also sharing the gospel through the chicken project he started along with Mission ONE’s support. By providing job opportunities and a source of food for the community, he is directly sharing the hope of God with those in need and reminding them that they are seen and valued even in the midst of their struggle.

God’s Love Expressed with a Chicken Project

By providing a way for those in the camp to earn a dignified income, they are able to step into their God-given gifts. In doing so, they are living in the truth of who they have been created to be and encouraging others in their identities as well.

We’re praising God that the community in this camp is being transformed to look more like the Kingdom. Pastor Thomas’ desire to love those around him and see the glory of the Lord on display is showing those around him that there is a lasting and tangible hope available to them where it was once lost.

We are grateful to report that this project is continuing to bless the community through the hundreds of chickens they have already sold. We are expectant to see God’s hand in this project as they are currently in the process of selling their third batch of chickens.

Thank you for your support which is allowing projects like this to expand the reach of the gospel around the world!
