Last summer, through the 31K in 31 Days campaign, we raised the funds needed to launch the Sewing Ministry in Eldoret, Kenya. Thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, we were able to complete the building, secure materials, and officially start the program. In January, 15 women from Eldoret began their journey toward healing and skill development.
A Safe Space for Healing and Growth
Many women in Eldoret have struggled with poverty, addiction, and trauma. This ministry provides them with a new beginning through tailoring training, mental health support, and Christian discipleship.
Before learning to sew, the women attended mental health counseling with local professionals, helping them process past trauma and gain confidence. For consistency, they continue to meet weekly, both for additional support and discipleship.
How the Sewing Ministry Works
The program follows a structured plan:
- Identifying Participants – Selecting women in need and assessing their challenges.
- Mental Health Counseling – Providing a foundation for emotional healing.
- Sewing & Tailoring Training – Teaching garment making, machine operation, and pattern design.
- Mentorship & Discipleship – Offering spiritual and practical guidance.
- Ongoing Support & Evaluation – Tracking progress and ensuring sustainability.
- Graduation & Economic Empowerment – Helping women start businesses or find employment.
With training equipment and materials in place, participants can immediately apply their new skills and begin creating a sustainable future.
Janet’s Dedication to the Community
For years, Janet has been building trust and relationships with the women in Eldoret. Through mentorship and discipleship, she has helped many find faith and hope. Her commitment has created a foundation where women learn vocational skills and also experience the love of Christ.
Mary is one of these women. Her life has been deeply impacted through the Sewing Ministry. She faced abuse and alcoholism for years, but sewing became her turning point.
In her own words:
“I was taking too much alcohol. I was a real consumer. But when I started training on tailoring, I saw the hand of God. Now, I stopped taking alcohol. Now I can handle a tailoring machine very well… This program has really helped me in life, and it has brought me far from where I was.”
Mary is now sober and continues to learn sewing skills. Her story is proof that this ministry is changing lives. Hear her story here.
Expanding the Impact
With your continued support, more women will have the opportunity to break free from addiction, learn valuable skills, and build a future filled with dignity and purpose.
