Urgent Relief for South Sudan

DONATE BELOW: You can provide urgent relief for Christians in South Sudan

The following is an excerpt from a letter we recently received at Mission ONE from Pastor Severino Maira Janus:

“Things are so difficult in South Sudan. Many people are coming to us thinking that we have food. My heart is troubled so much because of these people. When you suggested that you would like to send me a ticket to flee to Uganda, I became even more concerned for my people. We have more than 200 believers in the church here. How can I, as a leader, leave them behind? Please pray for God’s provision so that we may buy food in Uganda and rescue them.

The situation here is very bad. Almost three-quarter of the citizens have escaped to the neighboring countries. The areas are all militarized. Killing and looting have become the order of the day in South Sudan. Hunger and disease are killing so many of those who survive. Coupled with all of the above problems, most foreign banks that were operating in South Sudan are now closed, making it difficult to receive any hard currency. Most organizations open their bank accounts in neighboring countries. It is now a must for some of us to leave the country.

I would like to humbly make the following plea:

  1. Please provide money, so that Rose and I, and our daughter can flee to Uganda.
  2. Please provide money to help the 200+ believers who are trapped by the war in South Sudan. They need to buy food from Uganda, or wherever they can find it.
  3. Please pray for peace in South Sudan, so that those who are suffering in the refugee camps in neighboring countries can return home. We are exploring creative ways to get cash to Severino. However, we need your immediate help. We need to raise $10,000 as soon as possible so that we can provide the relief requested above.”
