Planting a future for ministry in Nepal

At Mission ONE, we partner with the local church in sharing the gospel with unreached people groups and find creative solutions to sustain this ministry in order for its reach to far surpass what can be seen in the here and now.

Our indigenous partner in Nepal is doing just that as they have been prayerfully planning to start a coffee project that will directly meet the immediate needs of their community and also allow their ministry to be locally sustained.

When you support this project, you are intentionally expanding the reach of the gospel in Nepal and advancing the presence of this ministry for years to come.

You are breaking generational cycles of poverty by providing job opportunities for those who have nothing to call their own and who are often overlooked in society.

Giving towards this project will also allow hundreds more to learn a valuable trade in coffee farming which will change the trajectory of their lives—ultimately transforming entire communities for the sake of the gospel.

Mission ONE and our partners in Nepal will begin the coffee farming project this year. Initially, a model farm will be established to pilot the project on a small scale and provide learning opportunities for the church planters and local pastors. Then a larger tract of land of about 40 - 50 acres will be purchased to grow coffee on a large scale. Over 100 local pastors currently serving in the ministry will be involved in coffee farming as well with the goal to generate income for their ongoing family needs as well as longterm ministry needs.

Once the coffee farm is up and running, the revenue from this project will help meet the operational costs of the ministry. In addition, the income from the project will help the ministry to continue to expand to new villages and unreached communities in Nepal.

MEASURABLE GOALS

  • Provide employment for 100 local pastors and church planters through coffee farming
  • Provide for the operational expenses of the local ministry in Nepal
  • Replace ministry support from overseas funds in 3-4 years

Why start a coffee project in Nepal?

Starting a coffee project in Nepal can have various benefits and advantages. Some of them are:

Unique Flavor Profile: Nepalese coffee has a unique flavor profile due to its unique growing conditions, such as high altitudes and diverse soil types. This can make it an attractive option for coffee connoisseurs who are interested in trying new and distinct flavors.

Sustainable Agriculture: Coffee farming can promote sustainable agriculture practices in Nepal, including organic farming techniques, biodiversity conservation, and soil and water conservation. This can help protect the environment and promote sustainable development in the region.

Economic Development: Coffee farming can also contribute to economic development in Nepal by providing new opportunities for farmers and supporting the local economy. It can create jobs, increase income for farmers, and promote rural development.

Social Impact: By starting a coffee project in Nepal, you can also have a positive social impact by supporting small-scale farmers and promoting gender equality. Women play an important role in coffee farming in Nepal, and supporting their participation can promote gender equality and women's empowerment.

Why is sustainability important?

Creating a sustainable development project like this coffee project can be important for community development and gospel impact for several reasons:

Economic Development: Coffee production can create jobs and generate income for small-scale farmers, which can help to alleviate poverty and improve the economic well-being of communities. In addition, sustainable coffee production practices can improve yields and product quality, which can increase the market value of the coffee and generate higher profits for farmers.

Social Impact: Sustainable coffee production can also have positive social impacts by promoting gender equity, supporting community development projects, and improving access to education and healthcare. For example, coffee cooperatives can provide training and resources to farmers, which can improve their skills and knowledge and empower them to make decisions about their own lives and futures.

Gospel Impact: A project that allows families to earn an income addresses their physical need and often opens the door for spiritual development. This project will employ many pastors to support their families but will also create job opportunities for people in the community. Our local partners will be sharing the gospel with them as they work the coffee farm side by side.

Local Ownership: Creating an income driving project like a coffee farm will create a locally owned income stream to support our partners missions work in Nepal. This will help them to move from foreign aid to local ownership over time.
